Trigmatic pays tribute to Ebo Taylor in new song
Ghanaian artist Trigmatic has shared a new single titled ‘Ghana Yoo’, a tribute to Ghanaian music legend Ebo Taylor. The song is produced by Johannesburg-based production duo Epic Minds and features versatile South African musician S´Villa. It is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
According to Trigmatic, the record, which draws from highlife great Ebo Taylor’s ‘Atwer Abroba’, celebrates Ghana and South Africa’s musical bond. The result is a smooth blend of Afro-house, amapiano and West African influences.
“Ebo Taylor is a pillar of inspiration for me,” Trigmatic said. “To see him still tour and perform after decades in this industry is truly remarkable and something I aspire to. I teamed up with Epic Minds and S'Villa to take our shared admiration of Ebo’s work a step further.”
‘Atwer Abroba’ is taken from Ebo Taylor’s 1978 album Twer Nyame, originally released on Philips West African Records. ‘Ghana Yoo’ arrives on the heels of a previous collaboration between Trigmatic and Epic Minds on the ‘Sing Your Fire’ single, off the duo’s Black is Gold EP (2022).
Trigmatic has also collaborated with other South African artists including Ralf GUM, Azana and Mthunzi.
In addition to his music career, Trigmatic organises the annual African Music Business Dialogue, which highlights African music professionals and fosters discussions on the future of the industry.
Founded in 2008, Epic Minds (Eddie Hatitye and Taf Chimbwa) first attracted attention from the Red Bull Music Studio in 2012 in their Beat Battle. The group has since partnered with artists from across Africa, including Skales (Nigeria), Camidoh (Ghana), and Ingrid White (Cameroon).
S'Villa, meanwhile, is best known for tracks like ‘Jehova,’ as well as the recent releases ‘Ngiyak’dinga’ and ‘Circulate’. He recently launched his independent music company, Villa Music Group.
