Open call: Cape Town artists for 2026 Artist Lab programme
Climate Lounge has opened applications for a new Artist Lab programme aimed at Cape Town-based creatives working across different disciplines.
The application deadline is 2 June.
The initiative is seeking 10 artists and creatives from the visual arts, music and sound, and spoken or written word sectors to participate in an intensive programme focused on climate knowledge and artistic development.
The programme will run from June to November 2026 and will combine climate-focused learning sessions with the development of new creative work exploring social, political and environmental issues.
Selected participants will receive a stipend and a makers' budget to support the creation of new work. Organisers also plan to present the completed projects at a public showcase expected to take place in November 2026.
Applicants are expected to have an interest in using creative work to engage with socio-environmental issues and themes related to sustainability.
Programme requirements include:
- Applicants must be based in Cape Town.
- Participants must attend six climate knowledge-building sessions.
- The first three sessions will take place on 19, 20 and 21 June 2026.
- The remaining sessions are scheduled for 14, 15 and 16 August 2026.
- Artists must create a new work between June and October 2026.
- Applicants are required to submit a portfolio or three to five examples of previous relevant work.
- Applicants should demonstrate an interest in art as a tool for social and environmental engagement.
