SAMRO to host two-week royalties and rights support drive
The Southern African Music Rights Organisation will host a two-week member engagement initiative aimed at helping music creators resolve administrative issues that may affect royalty payments and rights management.
SAMRO general manager of member services Nobambo Goduka.
Titled The State of Your Music: Service Weeks at SAMRO, the programme will run from 25 May to 5 June 2026 at SAMRO’s offices in Braamfontein and is intended to provide music creators, publishers and members with direct support through walk-in consultations and educational sessions.
According to SAMRO, creators frequently encounter challenges that can affect the proper crediting and payment of royalties. These include failure to notify the organisation of newly created works, incomplete registration processes, outdated banking information, misunderstandings around contractual obligations and inaccuracies in split sheets used to define song ownership.
The organisation said the initiative seeks to reduce barriers to service access by allowing members to attend without appointments, with the aim of simplifying engagement and increasing participation.
Members attending the sessions will be able to receive assistance with maintaining accurate records, notifying works correctly and understanding processes linked to rights administration and royalty earnings.
“We understand that the complexity of music rights can often lead to administrative hurdles that prevent our members from receiving the full royalties they are owed,” SAMRO general manager of member services Nobambo Goduka said. “By offering direct, walk-in access during The State of Your Music: Service Weeks, we are making it easier than ever for music creators to sit down with our representatives, sort out their affairs, and ensure they are maximising their royalty earning potential.”
Goduka urged both established and emerging creators to use the opportunity to review and update their information and gain a better understanding of royalty processes and rights management.
The programme will include on-site support and educational sessions covering areas such as music copyright, royalty earnings, catalogue management, live performance reporting, songwriter agreements and publisher-related matters.
Additional topics will include compliance requirements linked to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, as well as information on member benefits such as the SAMRO Retirement Annuity Fund and funeral support initiatives.
SAMRO said the sessions are intended to support both existing members and those considering membership by providing practical information about the broader music rights ecosystem.
