SA: Joy of Jazz 2023 announces line-up
Standard Bank Joy of Jazz has announced the eagerly awaited line-up for its upcoming 24th edition. The line-up, revealed at an exclusive event in Parktown, Johannesburg, on 26 July, features top local and international artists who will perform at Sandton Convention Centre on 29 and 30 September.
Running under the theme Feel the Jazz, Everywhere! and on four stages – Dinaledi, Grand, Conga and Mbira – music enthusiasts are in for a diverse range of performances and genres.
Headlining the Dinaledi Stage is Grammy Award-winning Swiss harpist Andreas Vollenweider and local musicians Ayanda Nhlangothi, Vusi Nhlapo and Vuyo Tshuma.
The Grand Stage will feature trumpeter Marcus Wyatt and guitar maestro Ernie Smith, while the Conga Stage is set to host Grammy Award winner Robert Glasper and other revered contemporary jazz giants.
Joy of Jazz will also pay homage to departed jazz legends with special tribute performances: Guitarist Billy Monama’s tribute to Allen Kwela will feature special guests Titi Luzipo and Mimi Mtshali, while the Hugh Masekela Band will honour the late South African jazz legend.
For diverse musical tastes, the Mbira Stage boasts names such as a Zonke, Buhlebendalo, Max-Hoba, Ami Faku, Langa Mavuso, Samthing Soweto and Simphiwe Dana.
