More artists added to 2019 Cape Town International Jazz Fest
The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) has announced a new batch of artists who will perform at the event on 29 and 30 March.
African artists who are featured on the line-up are Grammy award-winning bassist Richard Bona (Cameroon), Ndaka Yo Wiñi (Angola), Tiago Correia-Paulo (Mozambique), Nonku Phiri & Mandla Mlangeni (SA), Hope Masike (Zimbabwe) and Xixel Langa (Mozambique).
They will be joined by GoGo Penguin (UK), Moses Boyd (UK), John Scofield’s Combo 66 featuring Vicente Archer, Gerald Clayton & Bill Stewart (US) and FKJ (France).
South African musicians collaborating with international artists include Vuma Levin, Herbie Tsoali, Sydney Mnisi, Feya Faku, Andile Yenana, Kevin Gibson, Ibrahim Khalil Shihab, Christopher James Schilder, Morris Goldberg, Steve Kekana, Mahube, Bokani Dyer, Mbuso Khoza, Siya Makuzeni, Sekunjalo Edujazz Big Band and Edgar Muzah & Friends.
CTIJF director Billy Domingo said the festival would offer an array genres for all jazz fans.
“We are curating a weekend for music lovers,” Domingo said. “Jazz remains our main focus but we cannot ignore the wide-ranging wealth of talented musicians who deserve to perform at the festival.
“It is our aim to offer the best quality entertainment. That’s what we are good at and we look forward to celebrating music, culture and Cape Town with everybody planning to join us for the 20th celebration.”
Previously announced artists include Chaka Khan (US), Eliane Elias (Brazil), Moonchild (US), The Lady Day Big Band (South Africa), Knower (US), Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles, Shekhinah (SA), Don Laka (SA), Sho Madjozi (SA), BCUC (SA) and the Soweto Gospel Choir (SA), among others.
