Inaugural African Entertainment Awards USA to promote African agenda

Top African artists from Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda are among those lined up to perform at the inaugural African Entertainment Awards USA that will be held on Saturday 31 October at the Essex County College Mary Burch Theater in Newark, New Jersey in the USA. Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Ommy Dimpoz, Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo and US-based Rwandan artist The Ben are among the artists who will perform at the event.

The first of its kind in the US, the awards seek to promote, uplift, enhance and unite Africans globally and to create a platform for the voicing and advancing of African diaspora around the world, while addressing issues affecting Africans in the USA and worldwide. The awards will therefore award outstanding achievers in music, TV and film. Tanzania’s Ali Kiba and Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo will compete for the Best New Artist of the Year award alongside Phyno, Bisa Kdei, MC Galaxy, Naeto C, Ommy Dimpoz, Lady Ponce, Serge Beynaud and Deng.

The vision for African Entertainment Awards USA is to create a United Africa, so that Africa can be self-sufficient by creating and making decisions that are beneficial to the people of Africa. During the awards show, several causes will be promoted. The awards will push for the creation of the Congressional African Immigrant Caucus.

Like other Immigrant Caucuses, the African Immigrant Caucus is dedicated to voicing and advancing issues affecting Africans in the US and worldwide through the legislative process. Convincing congress to designate September as African Immigrant Heritage Month is also on the agenda. Part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to Save Our Nation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping orphans who lost their loved ones from the Ebola epidemic (primarily in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea), among others.
