Call for scores: Southern African clarinet compositions
Grant Snyman, a PhD student at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa, is inviting Southern African composers to submit scores for its clarinet compositions.
Scores should be emailed to Grant Snyman at gsnyman93@gmail.com or s212293001@mandela.ac.za before 2 May.
The call is part of Snyman’s doctoral research study to create a new and updated clarinet catalogue of Southern African works. Over 20 clarinet compositions have been sourced and included to date.
Countries that are eligible to submit scores include South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique.
Requirements
- The call is for all Southern African composers who have written a work for the clarinet (Bb or A) between 1995 and 2022.
- Works can be published or unpublished.
- Catalogue will include: solo works (accompanied or unaccompanied), sonatas, chamber music and or concertos written for the clarinet.
- Composers may choose to include biographical details and website (contact) information.
“I am honoured to have been able to engage with over 130 composers to date, with over 60 works for the clarinet having been collected and catalogued (and many more on the way),” Snyman says. “This forms part of my doctoral research at Nelson Mandela University. I am calling on all Southern African composers to contact me and inform me of any and all of their original works (published or unpublished) written for the clarinet between 1995-2022.”
He added: “In addition, composers will be invited to take part in a research questionnaire. Works to be included in the catalogue are: solo works, clarinet with piano, clarinet with electronic sounds, chamber music and or concertos.”
