Zim: Shoko Festival announces 2024 headliners
Zimbabwean artists Tamy Moyo and Master H, as well as South African rapper Nadia Nakai, will headline the 2024 edition of the Shoko Festival in Harare and Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, from 26 to 28 September.
The festival will be held under the theme #BothSidesOfSamora, symbolising the unity and convergence of diverse social classes historically divided by Samora Machel Avenue. The #BothSidesOfSamora theme honours the young cultural innovators who are shaping Zimbabwe’s future through their creative expression and daily acts of resilience.
According to the organisers, this year’s event will bridge the gap between uptown and downtown, suburbs and the hood, creating a unique platform that celebrates the vibrant urban culture that thrives on both sides of the avenue.
By bringing together individuals from all walks of life, the festival aims to foster a spirit of inclusivity, celebrate the city’s rich cultural heritage, and showcase the boundless talent that exists on both sides of Samora Machel Avenue
“This year, we are so amped to celebrate the diverse backgrounds of young people who are joined together through the love of music and performing arts,” Shoko Festival coordinator Vera Chisvo said. “Our star-studded line-up is a true reflection of that, and we will be announcing more acts in due course.”
Zimdancehall artist Master H, who is currently topping charts with hits like ‘Dhanzi’, is set to deliver an energetic set, while Afropop fusion star Tamy Moyo will return to the Shoko Festival with her impressive catalogue of hits, including her latest single ‘Kelly Kelvedhura’ featuring Master H, which is nearing a million views online. Festivalgoers will also be in for a treat when South African hip hop royalty Nakai graces the Shoko Festival stage.
The three-day festival offers a diverse programme, including Mashup Night, Shoko Comedy Night, and the main event, Peace in the Hood concert. Additionally, the Hub Unconference will feature inspiring talks and bootcamps on digital media, tech, and the creative economy. Shoko Festival has a legacy of hosting African urban culture pioneers like Casper Nyovest, HHP, AKA, Tehn Diamond, Tumi Morake, Kikky Badass and Winky D.
