SA: UK promoter to host new festival in Cape Town

The festival will feature top local artists including Sun-El Musician, Culoe De Song, Caiiro, Kid Fonque, Jullian Gomes, and Jazzuelle. They will be joined by German artists Booka Shade, Christian Löffler, Parra For Cuva, and Grammy Award-winning French music group Deep Forest.

“This is our inaugural event in South Africa since we started promoting events at the top venues in the UK for more than a decade,” The Playground director and organiser Warren Morris told Music In Africa. “We started out as a music, fashion, arts and film brand in the UK which appealed to all of the art students and creatives. We spent years trying to find a venue in South Africa that could take this concept forward and believe that Elandskloof Farm is one of the ultimate locations in all of South Africa.”

Other than live music, the festival will feature other activities including theatre performances, burlesque, live art exhibitions and installations. The festival, Morris said, would run under the theme Timeless, with music from artists that have solidified their names in the halls of fame.

“By bringing together all of these incredible music offerings as well as the theatre and live art elements, we are devising a show that will ultimately leave the audience with Timeless memories as well,” he said.

Morris described the line-up as acts that are leading the industry across the globe.

“The artists on the bill so far are leading the way worldwide in deep, progressive house music as well as Afro-house. This is just the first announcement of artists and we aim to roll out more acts which will further solidify this direction as well as artists that are timeless in their own right. The scope of electronic music will appeal to the younger audience as well as the slightly older audience, 20 to 40 years old.”
