SA: Mpho.Wav shares new single Atmos Wav I ahead of debut album
South African musician and producer Mpho.Wav has shared a new single titled ‘Atmos Wav I’ ahead of the release of his debut album Book of Wav, set to come out later in the year.
The song, a collaboration between Mpho.Wav and Atmos Blaq, was born out of a spontaneous and joyful creative session.
Mpho.Wav will release a new track every Friday in the build-up to the new album, with his next single ‘Bilkeuy’ featuring Nyamal Nyang to be unveiled on 20 September.
Each track from the Book of Wav album is a chapter, unfolding Mpho.Wav’s story with intricate detail and profound emotion. Fans can expect collaborations with top artists including Sun-EL Musician, Da Capo, Simmy, Mthunzi, Malumz On Decks, Azana, Nyamal Nyang, Lyrik Shoxen, Miči, Fatso 98, Kekelingo, Leko M, Nobuhle, Mpumi, Thandazo, Tete, and Atmos Blaq.
“Each artist lends their own distinct magic, yet it is Mpho.Wav who orchestrates this symphony, leading you through realms of beauty, power, and discovery,” the singer’s team said. “Mpho.Wav breaks new ground, not by pushing boundaries but by dissolving them entirely. It is an album that promises not only to resonate in the ears of its listeners but to linger in their hearts long after the final note fades.”
Born Mpho Mohlong, Mpho.Wav continues to dazzle the music scene with his innovative, groovy sound and captivating collaborations in Afro-house. Hailing from Orange Farm township in Johannesburg and spending his formative years in the Vaal Triangle, Mpho.Wav’s passion for music was ignited at the tender age of 14.
Beginning his musical journey as a drummer and pianist in church, he quickly evolved into a sought-after session musician, working with renowned smooth jazz fusion and gospel artists. Mpho.Wav’s foray into music production began when a friend introduced him to digital production tools, igniting his exploration of sound. His talent flourished as he joined the El World Music collective (now called Africa To The World Agency) created by mentor and friend Sun-El Musician, where he contributed as a session musician and music producer, collaborating with celebrated artists under the collective.
