SA: Betway Cares launches mentorship for emerging female artists
The Betway Cares Foundation has launched Voices of Her, a national mentorship and vocal talent development initiative aimed at supporting young female artists across South Africa.
- The mentorship session will be led by South African musicians Bucie Nqwiliso and Nomfundo Xaluva (pictured).
The 12-week programme seeks to identify and mentor women between the ages of 20 and 35 from previously disadvantaged communities, equipping them with the skills and resources to pursue sustainable careers in the music industry.
The initiative begins with a four-week selection process to identify the top 12 finalists, who will then take part in an eight-week mentorship phase. Participants will receive training in areas such as vocal technique, songwriting, personal branding, financial literacy, and the business aspects of the music industry.
The mentorship will combine five weeks of online learning and two weeks of in-person sessions in Johannesburg. These sessions will be led by established South African musicians, including award-winning R&B singer Bucie Nqwiliso and jazz vocalist Nomfundo Xaluva.
To ensure accessibility, each finalist will receive a laptop and data contract to facilitate participation in online learning and mentor engagement.
According to Betway Cares Foundation head Bakang Lethoko, the programme aims to “restore dignity, create access, and equip women with the abilities to build lasting careers.”
Entries are open to aspiring vocalists nationwide, who can apply by sending the word “Enter” via WhatsApp to 063 700 1800, along with a 60-second singing video. The top 12 finalists will be announced on 24 October 2025.
The Voices of Her programme forms part of the Betway Cares Foundation’s broader efforts to promote empowerment through sport, education, arts, and community development.
