Call for entries: Orchestral composition competition in China
African composers are encouraged to participate in the inaugural edition of the Art Creation Awards, an international orchestral composition competition by the Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival, which will this year take place from 24 to 28 September in China.
With the competition, the festival seeks to encourage young composers to create more original works. The annual festival programming also includes concerts, master forums and composition workshops.
Eligibility
Applicants should note:
- The competition is open to composers below the age of 40.
- Only one orchestral work per participant can be submitted.
- The composition should be between 10 and 12 minutes.
- The instruments to be used include 3333/4331/4 Perc.1Timp./1Harp/.14 12 10 8 6.
- The entries must be original works composed by the entrant after 2019 and should not have been performed previously.
Requirements
- A copy of the ID card or passport.
- One high-resolution photo.
- A contact telephone number, email address and mailing address.
- A short bio (100 words max).
- A brief description of the entry (100 words).
All the above should be emailed in PDF format to hzcmf@zjcm.edu.cn.
The application deadline is 1 August 2020 (GMT+8).
A panel of judges from Italy, Thailand, Ireland, China and Switzerland will select the winners.
Prizes
- First prize – 100 000 Chinese yuan ($14 000).
- Second prize – 50 000 Chinese yuan.
- Third prize – 20 000 Chinese yuan.
