Call for auditions: SA school pupils wanted for theatre production
Born to Perform is calling on talented south African pupils in the fields of music, dance and musical theatre to audition for the Shine! production at Montecasino's The Teatro in Johannesburg from 29 April to 1 May.
Born to Perform is a platform intended to give young performers opportunities and experiences in the arts, while allowing self-development and personal growth through their love and passion for music.
The show will be staged at The Teatro from 13 to 15 September for four performances only. Interested applicants can apply here.
On receipt of the audition form, a pack with information needed for auditioning will be sent to applicants.
“We want to Shine! a light on local schools that are doing great things in their creative departments,” director Gemma Marinus said. “We are particularly interested in seeing school choirs, music ensembles, dance troupes, tap troupes and pantsula troupes, and we are on the search for a school to open act 2 with a show-stopping number.”
South African musical director Bryan Schimmel said: “As someone who champions the development of young talent, I am thrilled to get behind Matthew and Gemma Marinus’ vision to create a platform where kids not only have a platform to be creative and expressive but also have a space where they can develop important life skills.
“Further supporting the vision of developing young talent, I have delegated more than half of the customised musical arrangements to two up-and-coming 22-year-old arrangers, Gav Rubin and Dean Salant, who are working under my guidance and supervision and honing their skills in the process.”
