Not only will it be an exciting international festival with a strong dance focus, it will also be the seat of an ASSITEJ international Executive Committee meeting and an African regional workshop, as part of the BABEL, EU-funded ASSITEJ project, which focuses on The Art of Listening in Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA). This means that there will be delegates from around 30 countries attending the festival.
The co-curators of Cradle of Creativity 2023 are Jaqueline Dommisse, an experienced theatre director and puppeteer, who was the artistic director for the 2017 and 2019 editions, and Faye Kabali-Kagwa, ASSITEJ SA Western Cape coordinator. Both Dommisse and Kabali-Kagwa are powerful and respected voices in the arts scene in South Africa with a deep experience of theatre for young audiences over many years.
“We are inviting applications for performances at the festival, specifically from South Africa, Africa and non-European countries, at this stage,” a statement reads. “These must be aimed at young audiences (not more than 20 years) and their families. There will also be a call in a few weeks’ time for presentations, lectures, workshops and other activities aimed at professional artists and young people.”
Interested applicants should apply here before 28 February.
