‘Inkanuko’, which translates as “longing for love”, combines piano melodies, layered harmonies and textured percussion, balancing emotional depth with danceable rhythms. The production merges township soul with contemporary Afro-electronic elements, reflecting Sponch Makhekhe’s signature sound.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the single, he said: “‘Inkanuko’ speaks to that deep feeling of wanting love, even when it feels distant. It’s about embracing the longing and understanding that vulnerability is strength.”
The song serves as an introduction to his forthcoming EP, which will explore love, emotional resilience, human connection and authentic storytelling. The project aims to merge heartfelt lyricism with Afro-dance production, positioning Sponch Makhekhe among South Africa’s emerging emotionally driven dance music artists.
With a growing fanbase and a sound that bridges narrative depth and energetic rhythms, ‘Inkanuko’ is expected to be one of the season’s notable releases, offering both introspection and dance floor appeal.
