SA: Basha Uhuru fest announces 2025 line-up, new additions
The annual Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival will return to Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, South Africa with its Sounds of Freedom Music Festival on 13 September 2025.
- Lamiez Holworthy will perform at the event.
The event follows the Creative Conference, which took place from 26 to 28 June as part of Youth Month commemorations. This year’s theme, Celebrating the Legacy of Creative Expression, focuses on youth participation in creative and social economies.
The Sounds of Freedom Music Festival will feature performances by Khuli Chana, Pabi Cooper, Mthandeni SK, Kid Fonque, Lamiez Holworthy, Toss, DJ Cndo, Jahseed & Admiral, and Que DJ. The 2025 Basha Uhuru Sounds of Freedom Legacy Award recipients, Boom Shaka, will deliver a special performance.
The festival opens at 10am with live performances, a curated makers’ market, and cultural activities. For the first time, the programme will include a fashion show presented by the Sophie Ndaba Fashion Hub. The showcase, introduced earlier this year at the Business of Fashion Conference, is designed to support emerging designers through mentorship, business development and exposure. The debut show will feature designers alongside music curated by designer and DJ Maria McCloy.
Constitution Hill chief executive Leah Mabusela said the festival plays an important role in providing a platform for new and established artists, while promoting youth creativity in Gauteng.
Tickets are available through Webtickets.
