Open call: Pulitzer Center African radio engagement proposals
The Pulitzer Center has opened a call for proposals inviting local media and radio outlets across Africa to develop participatory radio initiatives based on its supported journalism.
The application deadline is 15 April.
The call targets organisations in East, Southern and West Africa, with a focus on projects that engage communities on issues at the intersection of climate and labour.
Overview
- Applicants are required to design participatory radio programmes or podcasts inspired by Pulitzer Center-supported stories.
- The initiatives aim to encourage community engagement, informed public dialogue and interaction with decision-makers.
- Selected projects should extend outreach to both suburban and grassroots communities.
Thematic focus
Proposals should address one or more of the following areas:
- Labour rights and working conditions
- Livelihoods and economic resilience
- Climate justice
- Adaptation of labour policies in response to climate change
Objectives
- Amplify journalism through accessible and community-driven formats
- Encourage public participation in the information ecosystem
- Foster dialogue between communities and policymakers
- Bridge the gap between urban and rural audiences
- Support locally led and contextually relevant storytelling
Eligibility
- Open to local media organisations, radio stations and outlets with strong community networks
- Applicants should demonstrate the ability to engage audiences, particularly young people
- Submissions are accepted in English and French

- Implementation period: 1 June to 30 August 2026
- Submission of deliverables: 15 September 2026

- An “Ask Me Anything” session will be held on 20 March 2026 (in English, with automated French translation) for interested applicants
