Open call: Creative and video producer for Reinterpreted Folksongs project
Music Crossroads Malawi (MCM), in partnership with the Malawi National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) and Rei Foundation Limited (RFL), MCM, are seeking a talented, culturally sensitive, and experienced creative and music Video producer to lead the visual interpretation of the Reinterpreted Folksongs project.

The project is focused on identifying, documenting, and safeguarding the rich tradition of Malawian folksongs. This initiative seeks to contextualise each performance by linking it to its ethnic group, language, and thematic roots.
The selected candidate will oversee the production of a compelling video series that features Malawian artists reinterpreting traditional folksongs collected from villages across the country. The goal is to creatively showcase these musical reinterpretations through visually engaging, culturally authentic music videos that honour Malawi’s musical heritage.
Key responsibilities
- Develop an overarching creative concept for the video series.
- Plan and manage the production of multiple music videos.
- Collaborate closely with artists, cultural experts, and project partners.
- Oversee all stages of filming, editing, and post-production.
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality video content that aligns with the project’s vision.
- Maintain consistent branding and thematic coherence across all video outputs.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a music video producer.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in video production and photography.
- Proficiency in video editing and photo retouching software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop).
- Strong skills in creative direction, visual storytelling, and concept development.
- Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to handle budgets and lead teams.
- A passion for cultural preservation and artistic reinterpretation.
- Familiarity with Malawian folksongs will be an added advantage.
- Ability to work in a multicultural, collaborative environment and meet deadlines.
