Open call: Amofest Band Contest in Ghana
Applications are currently open for the Amofest Band Contest in Accra, Ghana, this April.
The highlife competition, which forms part of the annual Berima Amo-led International Amofest event, aims to provide a platform for emerging bands to showcase their talent while fostering cultural exchange between artists from the Western world and Ghana.
Now in its second edition, the programme consists of a two-day music soiree at the Corridor Gardens in East Legon on 4 April and at Alliance Française, Accra, on 6 April.
Amo, a composer and trumpet player, is a recipient of the 2021 Performing Arts Social Fund in the Netherlands. The year before, he was announced as a brand ambassador for Austrian trumpet maker Schagerl.
Some 10 bands will be selected from the entries and the ultimate winner will receive a cash prize, as well as an opportunity to perform at the main festival stage.
