Open call: 5th Petrichor International Music Competition
The 5th Petrichor International Music Competition is now accepting applications from musicians worldwide. The event is open to instrumentalists, singers, ensembles, composers and recording artists of all ages and nationalities.
The application deadline is 22 December.
According to the organisers, submissions will be reviewed individually by the Petrichor Artistic Panel and jurors without consideration of age, nationality, gender or musical style.
Eligibility and repertoire
All instrumentalists and vocalists may enter the performance categories. There are no repertoire restrictions, and participants may submit any piece of their choice, including standard works, compositions by living composers or original pieces. Singers may perform in any language. The selected repertoire will not influence the jury’s evaluation.
Competition categories
The competition features three main areas: performance, composition and recording.
Performance Categories
(Video submission required)
- Solo performers under 16: Grand Prize: $500; Second: $300; Third: $200; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Solo performers under 21: Grand Prize: $1 000; Second: $700; Third: $300; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Solo performers over 21: Grand Prize: $1 500; Second: $1 000; Third: $500; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Small ensembles (up to 9 performers): Grand Prize: $1 500; Second: $1 000; Third: $500; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Large ensembles, orchestras or choirs (more than 9 performers): Grand Prize: $2 000; Second: $1 250; Third: $750; 10 finalists receive certificates.
Composition and Improvisation Categories
(Audio, video or score submission)
- Composers under 21: Grand Prize: $1 000; Second: $700; Third: $300; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Composers over 21: Grand Prize: $1 500; Second: $1 000; Third: $500; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Electronic or multidisciplinary works: Grand Prize: $1 000; Second: $700; Third: $300; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Film, video game or animation music: Grand Prize: $1 000; Second: $700; Third: $300; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Arrangements of pre-existing works: Grand Prize: $1 000; Second: $700; Third: $300; 10 finalists receive certificates.
- Improvisation (any genre or instrumentation): Grand Prize: $1 000; Second: $700; Third: $300; 10 finalists receive certificates.
Recording Category
- Best Album (performance or composition): Grand Prize: $2 000; Second: $1 250; Third: $750; 10 finalists receive certificates.
Record labels may participate by submitting album audio files or streaming links. Upcoming albums are also eligible, and participants retain all rights to their work.
Submission guidelines
- All genres, instrumentation and lengths are accepted.
- Submissions do not need to be anonymised.
- Works may be submitted in multiple categories, though each entry requires a separate fee.
- Studio-quality recordings are not required; mobile and computer recordings are permitted.
- Videos may be live recordings or previously submitted elsewhere.
- Each video must contain only one piece.
