Kenya: Wanavokali releases second album Vibes and Vokals
Kenyan music group Wanavokali has released its second album Vibes & Vokals, which is available on all major streaming platforms.
Vibes & Vokals embodies its theme. From the onset, Wanavokali’s goal with this sophomore album project has been to produce feel-good pop music that radiates positive energy and showcases their signature stellar vocals, all while conveying a meaningful message.
Born out of the unprecedented challenges of the lockdown period, Vibes & Vokals is a product of creativity and collaboration. During this time, Wanavokali engaged in a series of creative camps with acclaimed songwriters and producers, allowing them to explore their musical identities deeply. This process resulted in an album that speaks to the heart of life itself—love, dreams, friendship, and the simple pleasures that come with being human.
The album features 10 tracks that span various Afropop genres, including kapuka, arbantone, rhumba, Afrobeats, Afro-house, and amapiano. The themes explored in Vibes & Vokals include love and desire, self-actualisation, and women empowerment—reflecting the collective's commitment to meaningful storytelling through music.
The album is enriched by collaborations with notable artists such as Iyanii, Brandy Maina, and Nyokabi Macharia, each contributing their unique sonic identities. This diversity not only enhances the listening experience but also reinforces Wanavokali's position as a dynamic force in the music industry.
The lead single from the album, ‘Supa Dupa’, is an urban and catchy track that successfully enters the drill rhumba genre. With its infectious energy and vibrant melodies, it pays homage to their debut single "Rhumba," which first launched them into the mainstream music scene.
As Wanavokali continues to push boundaries within the music industry, Vibes & Vokals stands as a testament to their artistic journey. The collective remains committed to bringing diversity and stellar vocals to audiences across Africa and beyond. With their engaging performances at various events and festivals, including Folk Fusion and Blankets and Wine, Wanavokali has solidified their reputation as a must-watch act.
Following their remarkable journey since winning Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices in 2020, this album marks a significant evolution in their artistry, showcasing their growth as musicians and as a collective.
