Karabo Mokoena
About
Karabo Mokoena is a Johannesburg-based creative producer and cultural curator whose work sits at the intersection of visual arts, music, public space and community storytelling. With a dynamic background that spans gallery management, public art management, festival coordination, and creative direction, Karabo has become a distinctive voice in shaping contemporary urban culture in South Africa.
Her experience includes working with two leading galleries, managing exhibitions, artist relations, sales, and audience engagement. She has contributed to large-scale public art initiatives and served as part of the team for Moniker Art Fair, an internationally recognised contemporary urban art fair known for platforming boundary-pushing global creatives.
Driven by a deep passion for the arts, Karabo has worked across multiple creative fields — from curating mural festivals and community arts programmes to developing innovative concepts for musicians, designers and cultural organisations. She has collaborated with international and local artists, managed complex logistics with ease, and brought immersive cultural experiences to life through her meticulous attention to detail.
Her work is rooted in a strong belief in creativity as a tool for transformation, healing, and connection. With a natural talent for storytelling, an intuitive understanding of people, and an instinctively collaborative spirit, Karabo thrives in roles that require both vision and execution.
Whether producing a festival, crafting visual narratives for musicians, or coordinating artist-centered programmes, Karabo brings heart, clarity, and an unmistakable creative energy to every project.
She continues to explore new ways to bridge art, sound, and urban experience — always with the goal of uplifting artists, expanding audiences, and reshaping Johannesburg’s cultural landscape.
