Designed to improve transparency, recognition, and remuneration across the global music ecosystem, Connex was developed following four years of consultation with professionals across the sector. It officially launched on 1 May, with Universal Music Group (UMG) named as its founding customer.
Built to serve everyone from independent artists to major labels and publishers, Connex connects music creators and their preferred tools directly with labels, publishers, and distributors. This streamlined integration aims to reduce errors, improve credit accuracy, and strengthen collaboration across the industry.
“Connex is a crucial step towards a future where technology empowers transparency and collaboration,” Music Rights Awareness Foundation co-founder and a vocal advocate for creators’ rights, Björn Ulvaeus, said. “It enables us to build a more equitable and sustainable music industry for all.”
UMG vice president of process Innovation, Tim Burgess said: “Ensuring creators are correctly credited is essential to securing their legacy. Connex is a vital part of the technological network connecting studio data directly to label systems.”
Key features of Connex include seamless integration, metadata and audio management, reduced manual work, automation and flexible infrastructure.
Connex also supports the DDEX RIN (Recording Information Notification) standard, enabling a consistent digital language for sharing credits across platforms.
DDEX chair Kim Beauchamp, EVP at UMG, said: “Connex bridges the gap between industry needs and RIN’s potential, making accurate, robust credit transmission a reality.”
Connex managing director David Campbell said: “Connex simplifies credit and audio management and enables faster, stronger collaboration. With UMG on board, we are confident in our mission to resolve the industry’s complex data challenges through intuitive and powerful software.”
Connex was developed in partnership with STAGE, the global tech company behind rights and royalty systems including Session Studio, Salt, and RDx.
