
Open call: BASA board of directors nominations
Business and Arts South Africa NPC (BASA) invites the public to nominate qualified and experienced individuals to fill three vacancies on its board of directors.

The opportunity seeks to contribute to the organisation’s future as it strengthens partnerships, encourages innovation, and supports growth in South Africa’s creative economy.
Founded in 1997 as a joint initiative between the government and private sector, BASA promotes collaboration between business and the arts. The organisation works to increase the cultural and economic impact of the creative industries and is now entering a new phase of development.
About the board
The BASA board currently consists of eight non-executive directors and one executive director. The board is responsible for guiding the organisation’s strategic direction, governance, and compliance. Appointments consider both individual skills and the need for an effective and diverse leadership structure.
The nominations process is managed by BASA’s governance committee, which oversees governance practices and ensures a broad range of skills, experiences and perspectives on the Board.
Who can be nominated?
BASA is looking for individuals who are committed to supporting a sustainable, inclusive, and dynamic creative sector. Nominees should be able to contribute in areas such as:
- Fundraising
- Marketing
- Policy and governance
- Financial oversight
- Strategic partnerships
Directors focus on strategy rather than day-to-day operations.
Preference will be given to BASA members and those with a strong track record in the creative economy. Nominees should ideally have at least five years of combined experience in one or more of the following roles:
- Director of a listed or unlisted company
- Senior leadership in a public sector organisation
- Director or senior role in a large non-profit organisation
- Leadership in an arts or arts-related organisation
- Proven business experience
Nominees should also be willing and able to serve on at least one of BASA’s board committees:
- Risk and audit committee
- Marketing committee
- Human resources committee
- Governance committee
- New business initiatives committee
Term and commitment
Board members serve a three-year term on a voluntary, unpaid basis. The governance committee may exercise discretion in applying the qualification criteria to ensure a balanced and effective board.
How to nominate
Each nomination must include:
- Name of the nominator
- A letter of motivation from the nominator
- The nominee’s detailed curriculum vitae (CV)
- A written acceptance of the nomination from the nominee
