Call for applications: SA DJ Relief Fund
The organisers of the Dance Music Summit (DMS), in partnership with whiskey brand Ballentine’s, are calling on all South African DJs to apply for financial support through the SA DJ Relief Fund.
The fund, which will be administered by DMS co-organisers Irini Concepts, is intended to provide financial relief to the local DJ community affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In support of the initiative, Ballantine's True Music has pledged R100 000 ($5 300) towards the fund. Grants of up to R1 000 will be available for those who seek assistance.
To qualify for the grant, applicants need to have a proven track record of working in the industry through their social media pages and provide a letter from a venue where they have a residency.
Application criteria
- Applicant must not have a day job.
- Visible proof of social media activity.
- Letter from owner.
- Copy of an ID.
- Be a South African resident.
- Bank confirmation letter.
Meanwhile, Ballantine's True Music will host the live edition of the Deep Soul Sensation Saturdays, which launched last week. The weekly event, which aims to support the DJ Relief Fund, will feature top local and international house DJs.
The virtual event is an extension of the DMS, which was originally slated for March, and will now take place from 21 to 24 September.
“As we fight the pandemic, we will be engaging with our online communities for support,” DMS founder DJ Christos said. “Over the next few weeks we will also be hosting a series of live-stream events to be a dedicated source of support to the fund. We are grateful to Ballantine’s True Music who have continued to contribute to the South African dance music scene even in such times.”
Members of the public interested in donating towards the fund can do so here.
