Call for applications: Germany’s Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs 2018
German pop culture event Pop-Kultur has announced a call for applications to its 2018 edition.
The event is open to young musicians, producers or DJs. Other fields to be considered include music management or booking, label running, video directing, PR management and journalism.
According to a statement from the organisers, “If you already have some initial experience in these fields, apply to Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs, a workshop programme run by the festival from 15 to 17 August, which will take place for the fourth year in a row in Berlin – we have 250 spots available!”
Now in its fourth year, Pop-Kulture has brought young African music industry professionals into contact with similar figures in other climes, introducing them to a part of the global music network.
“The workshops, talks and lectures, which are given in either German or English by musicians and professionals from the national and international music industry, will be held on 15 and 16 August 2018 in the Kulturbrauerei, followed by a new networking format on 17 August. The participants, who come to us from all over the world and are selected by a jury of experts, can choose between more than 40 different courses.”
Interested participants can take a feminist rap workshop with artist Lady Bitch Ray. They can also witness an intensive discussion with producer Henrik Schwarz. The New York “underground legend Lydia Lunch will give a course about spoken word, the results of which will be presented on Friday in the festival’s main live programme!” They also have an opportunity to find out how their own music can get on Spotify.
"The workshops, talks and lectures will provide inspiration, clarify urgent questions and encourage you to continue making your way in the music business."
Participation in the Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs programme costs €40 including drinks, lunch and access to Pop-Kultur’s networking area for professionals. Participants have to cover all expenses for travel, accommodation and visa themselves. The application deadline is 12 June.
