Apple Music makes artist analytics available to all
Artists can now access the Apple Music for Artists analytics tool as an iPhone app.
“Apple Music for Artists is here. We’ve listened to the artist community and incorporated your feedback to create the very best tool for understanding how your music is performing across the globe,” the company tweeted recently.
Apple Music for Artists was previously launched as a web-only product and available only to a small group of artists. The iPhone version allows artists access to data on week-over-week listening habits of fans, highlighting the number of track plays, song purchases and more dating back to when Apple Music launched in June 2015.
Apple Music for Artists also provides data on listener demographics based on prapmeters like age and location, which could help artists and labels plan tours and product launches.
Additionally, Apple has also integrated data from Shazam, which avails information such as top Shazam cities and countries. Apple music acquired Shazam in 2018. The music app allows users to identify songs by merely listening to music playing around them and has been downloaded more than 1 billion times around the world, with users identifying songs using the app over 20 million times daily.
According to the company, the analytics tool was created especially for indie musicians, who otherwise wouldn’t have access to in-depth analytical insight about fans’ buying and listening habits.
The app's homepage also provides users with highlights of significant milestones, such as when a track features on an Apple playlist.
Its only shortcoming is that artists cannot cross-reference different datasets, such as how many users between a particular age group and in a specific city are listening to a song.
