Additional information on COVID-19 rules in South Africa?

All travellers are required to bring a completed Traveller Health Questionnaire and a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate, not older than 72 hours prior to the date of their travel. Travellers arriving without a valid test certificate will be required to undergo an antigen test at their own expense upon arrival. Travellers exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 or testing positive must enter quarantine for at least 10 days at their own expense.

Upon arrival in South Africa, all travellers will be subjected to screening by Port of Health officials. In the case where a traveller shows suspected COVID-19 symptoms (elevated body temperatures and flu-like symptoms), he/she will have to take a mandatory COVID-19 test. This test will be at the traveller’s expense. If the COVID-19 test comes back positive, the traveller has to go into a 10-day quarantine at a designated hotel at his/her own cost.

All travellers departing from South Africa are required to complete the South African exit health screening form.

Is it mandatory to have a vaccination certificate before travelling to South Africa?

No. A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

Which borders are open in South Africa?

Please check before choosing your mode of transport into South Africa. While all the main airports are open, it is possible that some boarders may be restricted for those aiming to travel by road.
