Premium Duo is a subscription plan designed for two people living in the same house and costs R79.99 a month in South Africa. Each person gets their own Premium account under one plan in addition to benefits like exclusive access to Duo Mix – a regularly updated playlist made just for the two subscribers to discover audio they love and enjoy.
The service is R20 cheaper than the Family Account and R20 more expensive than the Premium plan.
“Today we are proud to launch Spotify Premium Duo, a first of its kind audio offering for just two people in the same household,” Spotify chief Premium business officer Alex Norström said.
“Premium Duo includes our extensive music and podcast catalogue and everything users love about Spotify Premium. With two individual Premium accounts, you can both listen independently, uninterrupted and get all your personalised playlists and features tailored just for you. We are thrilled to bring this unique Spotify Premium plan to even more markets around the world.”
According to a user study conducted by Spotify, 73% of couples listen to music together as a way of remembering happy memories. The study also reveals that 63% of couples listen to music together as a way of building their identity or creating memorable moments.
Users who haven’t tried Premium before are eligible to get the first month of Premium Duo for free. Existing Premium subscribers can switch to Premium Duo by visiting their account page and changing their subscription.
Spotify said upgrading to Premium Duo enables subscribers to keep their existing Premium accounts along with saved music, podcasts, playlists and recommendations.
