South African singer Zolani Mahola has released a new single titled ‘XhosaNostra’, featuring the late rapper Bravo Le Roux, in a collaboration that blends gqom rhythms with cultural and personal themes.

The track, which forms part of Mahola’s upcoming album People Power, incorporates percussion-driven production and vocal arrangements rooted in contemporary African dance music. It also includes orchestral elements contributed by London-based producer Hannah V.
According to information released alongside the single, ‘XhosaNostra’ carries cultural themes centred on Xhosa identity, ancestry and heritage, while positioning itself within a broader celebration of South African cultural pride.
The song also features one of Bravo Le Roux’s final recorded performances before his death. His contribution has been described as adding emotional weight to the track, which reflects on legacy and remembrance alongside its celebratory tone.
Mahola said the song was inspired by her personal connection to her heritage and her late father.
She described ‘XhosaNostra’ as a reflection of “Xhosa identity, ancestry and cultural connection”, adding that it draws on “the teachings of my late father and the spiritual bond I continue to hold with those who came before me”.
The single is the first release from Mahola’s forthcoming album People Power, which is expected to include influences from Afro-pop, gqom, 3-Step and other African contemporary genres.
Bravo Le Roux, who was associated with the emerging Xhosa Wave movement, died earlier in 2026.
Mahola rose to international prominence as the lead singer of the group Freshlyground and has since built a solo career spanning music, theatre and film. She previously contributed to the global hit Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) with Shakira and has collaborated with a range of international and African artists.
Her debut solo album Thetha Mama received recognition at the South African Music Awards.
