SA: Zee Nxumalo joins Apple Music’s Up Next Programme
Apple Music has announced South African amapiano artist Zee Nxumalo as the latest artist to join its prestigious Up Next programme.
The announcement follows the release of Zee Nxumalo’s 10-track EP titled Inja Ye Game. It features DJ Tira, Dee, Goldmax and Dee Koala. The project showcases her versatility across the dynamic tracks and reinforces her position as one of the leading figures in the amapiano movement.
“My new project, Inja Ye Game, is all about claiming my place in the spotlight, I’m next, and I’m owning it,” Zee Nxumalo told Apple Music. “Being named Apple Music’s Up Next artist is a huge moment for me. It’s a bold stamp of approval from one of the biggest platforms in the world.
“To be part of a list that’s highlighted global stars like Tems and Giveon is incredible, especially as amapiano gets its well-deserved global shine with its own Apple Music category. This project shows my range, and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”
Zee rose to prominence with her viral breakout single ‘Funk 55’ (2023), featuring DBN Gogo and Shakes & Les. The song, which achieved 5x platinum status, became a summer anthem and cemented her reputation as a rising star in the amapiano genre. She followed this success by teaming up with Dlala Thukzin and Funky Qla on the Afro-tech hit ‘Ama Gear’ (2024), a track that has dominated charts and playlists since its release.
As part of her Up Next recognition, Zee will be featured across Apple Music’s Up Next playlist, a global platform that introduces emerging talent to a larger audience. The playlist is curated by Apple Music editors worldwide and spans all genres, spotlighting artists the platform is eager to champion. Zee Nxumalo joins a distinguished roster of Up Next alumni, which includes internationally celebrated artists such as Tems, Giveon, Billie Eilish, Burna Boy, Megan Thee Stallion, and Rema, among others.
