SA: CAPASSO appoints new board
Leading digital rights management society, CAPASSO (Composers, Authors and Publishers Association), has announced new appointments to its board, naming Meladi Mampane as independent chairperson and Brenda Mtambo as deputy chairperson.
Meladi Mampane is the news CAPASSO board chairperson.
Musician Brenda Mtambo is the new CAPASSO board deputy chairperson.
Mampane succeeds former board chairperson Leslie Sedibe, while Mtambo takes over from Yvonne Chaka Chaka. Both Sedibe and Chaka Chaka served six-year tenures on the CAPASSO board.
Mampane, co-founder of Maletchaba Human Capital, joined the CAPASSO board in 2021 as chairperson of the board’s Remuneration Committee (REMCOM). She brings more than 25 years of experience in human resources, transformation management consulting, corporate governance and strategic empowerment initiatives.
“It is a privilege to step into the role of Independent Chairperson at CAPASSO,” Mampane said. “The creative sector depends on strong governance and ethical leadership to protect and empower composers, authors and publishers. My focus will be on ensuring that the organisation continues to operate with integrity, clarity of purpose and a commitment to delivering meaningful value to its members.”
Mtambo, a multi-award-winning singer, songwriter and entrepreneur, joined the CAPASSO board in 2024 as a composer member. She currently chairs the CAPASSO Remuneration Committee and runs her own company, BUSA Music, while advocating for women’s empowerment and mental wellness in the music industry.
Mtambo said: “Serving as deputy chairperson of CAPASSO is both an honour and a responsibility I carry with deep respect. As a composer, I understand first-hand the importance of protecting intellectual property and building systems that genuinely serve creators. I am committed to ethical leadership, inclusive representation and ensuring that CAPASSO continues to evolve in ways that secure long-term value for composers and publishers alike.”
CAPASSO CEO Jotam Matariro welcomed the appointments, noting Mampane’s proven leadership during her tenure as REMCOM chair. “She demonstrated a profound understanding of the complexities of the collective management business and a masterful command of independent governance. As we navigate an evolving digital landscape in music consumption, I am confident that her strategic vision and growing industry expertise will be invaluable to our success,” Matariro said.
He also praised Mtambo’s transition into the deputy chairperson role: “Her firsthand experience as a creator, combined with her dedication to the technicalities of managing music rights, provides the Board with an essential bridge between industry policy and the artist community. Brenda’s appointment is a win for both governance and the creators we represent.”
