
Nigerian stars up for The Global Awards 2023
Nigerian stars Fireboy DML, Rema and Burna Boy have scored nods in The Global Awards 2023, whose winners will be announced on air, online and on Global Player on 31 March.
- Fireboy DML is shortlisted in the Best Song and Best Hip Hop or R&B categories.
First awarded in 2018, the scheme, a brainchild of British media company Global Media & Entertainment, honours the biggest stars of music and entertainment across a wide range of genres. The upcoming edition of the awards will also reward outstanding feats in podcasting.
Fireboy DML was shortlisted in the Best Song category for his Ed Sheran-assisted ‘Peru’, which last month received the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Platinum certification after selling 1 million copies. Fireboy DML is also up for the Best Hip Hop or R&B prize alongside fellow Nigerian Burna Boy, US pop icon Beyoncé, and a host of other artists.
Rema’s global hit ‘Calm Down’ featuring US singer Selena Gomez is up for Best Social Trended Song. Recently, the original version of the song became the most-watched Afrobeats video on YouTube with more than 410 million views,
Meanwhile, English singer Harry Styles leads this year’s nominations with five, followed by Lewis Capaldi with four awards.
