Linktree adds NFT-sharing tool for creators
Link-sharing platform Linktree has launched a set of new features which allow creators to showcase their NFTs on the platform.
The tool was developed in partnership with NFT marketplace OpenSea. "It will enable users to build a community around ownership and provide creators with “new ways to monetise their craft and curate a digital identity,” the company said.
Users can add their OpenSea galleries to create a preview. They can also connect their Metamask wallets to verify ownership, or they can link their Metamask wallets and select up to six NFTs they own to display them on Linktree. Users can then click through to OpenSea to view and purchase the available NFTs.
Backgrounds will have a verification badge at the bottom of the creator’s Linktree. Creators can also use their NFTs as their profile images or backgrounds on their Linktree after they connect their wallets, a similar process Twitter recently took with its NFT profile pictures.
Only users who own NFTs from a particular collection will then be able to unlock the link by connecting their wallets to prove ownership. Linktree says this feature allows creators to make the distribution of benefits easier.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Linktree CEO Alex Zaccaria said “Linktree is providing meaningful features to empower creators in the web3 space,” he said, adding, “As the number of creators tapping into web3 grows, Linktree provides these creators the tools they need to display their NFTs anywhere they have their Linktree link and to provide exclusive incentives to their community.”
The move makes Linktree the latest major company to integrate NFTs on its platform.
Music streaming platform Spotify recently announced that it was testing a new feature that allows artists to promote their NFTs on their profiles. Last week, Instagram said it would begin testing NFTs with a few creators in the US. In February, YouTube doubled down on creator tools including NFTs.
The news follows Linktree’s earlier fundraising round of $110m in March, which raised the platform’s value to $1.3bn. About 1.2 billion users visit Linktree every month, the company claims, enabling more than one million artists to generate 90 million visits to streaming providers in 2021.
