The development aligns with the platform’s participation in the upcoming Africa Rising Music Conference (ARMC), set to take place on 22 and 23 May 2025 at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.
At the forefront of this South African chapter is musician and cultural figure Money Badoo, who has been named the country’s first Lady of the House ambassador. Known for her genre-defying artistry and bold presence in both music and fashion, Money Badoo’s appointment marks a powerful alignment between her personal mission and the values of the organisation.
“Being part of Lady of the House means standing on the shoulders of giants while carving space for the next wave of greatness,” Money Badoo said. “South Africa is rich with raw talent and deep stories, this is about making sure the world hears them, and hears them loud.”
For Lady of the House founder Laila McKenzie, the move into South Africa is both a strategic evolution and a meaningful moment in the platform’s global journey. “We’re beyond excited to expand into South Africa with Money Badoo at the helm,” she said. The energy, talent, and cultural innovation coming out of this region is undeniable. It’s time the global industry gives women and gender-marginalised people here the platform they deserve.”
Originally launched in the United Kingdom in 2021 as a ground-breaking book honouring 150 women in the dance music industry, Lady of the House has since evolved into a multifaceted global movement.
With ventures including a record label, educational initiatives, and headline-making events, the platform has gained international traction and forged strategic partnerships across the music industry. Following its successful expansion into Brazil last year, led by artist CAMZ, the movement now extends its reach to South African shores.
The expansion is part of Lady of the House’s ongoing mission to empower, educate, and amplify voices from historically underrepresented communities within electronic music. The South African launch will be formally marked by an exclusive panel discussion at ARMC titled Elevating Women & Non-Binary Artists in South Africa’s Dance Music Scene.
The panel will delve into themes such as inclusion, creative entrepreneurship, and building sustainable careers in the music industry. Joining Money Badoo on the panel are fellow changemakers Gigi Lamayne, Namakau Star, and SHAMISO.
