CKay launches management and publishing company Boyfrnd Music
Nigerian artist CKay this week announced the launch of an independent management and publishing company called Boyfrnd Music.
According to a statement, the label, a subsidiary of the American entity Boyfrnd Music LLC, was co-founded with Nigerian music industry exec Joseph Salubi. The focus of the label will be helping artists, songwriters and producers secure their royalties, as well as offering A&R services to nurture their creativity.
“We are committed to creating a formidable and transparent environment where artists, songwriters, and producers can focus on their creativity while we handle the complexities of management and music publishing,” CKay, born Chukwuka Ekweani and serving as the company’s CEO, said. “Every true artist deserves a team that supports their vision without taking advantage of them.”
Salubi, who will function as the managing director for Boyfrnd Music, added: “We believe in empowering creators by ensuring they receive the royalties they deserve and offering the resources and guidance needed to thrive creatively.”
Following the announcement of Boyfrnd Music, CKay is set to release his new single, ‘Egwu Eji,’ on Friday.
CKay, a self-styled ‘emo Afrobeat’ musician and producer, is best known for his 2019 hit ‘Love Nwantiti’, which brought him international success two years later. In March, ‘Love Nwantiti’ was certified eight times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He is also behind songs like ‘Emiliana,’ ‘Watawi,’ and ‘You.’ In September 2022, CKay released his 12-track debut album Sad Romance via Warner Music South Africa.
