Luna Paige
Bio
Singer and songwriter Luna Paige made her entry into the music industry in 1999 with a debut release as one of 5 female musicians who contributed musically to the album, "Eve: Women in the garden of song". At barely 19 years old, Luna consequently shared company and the stage with singer Lesley Rae-Dowling, Laurinda Hofmeyr, Nicole Holm, and Eugenie Grobler. This experience catapulted her into a life of music and the release of her first EP "Luna" (2003). Her first full-length album, "Missing Pieces" was released in 2005, after which she released two more English albums, "Wonderful Life" (2009) and "Borders & Beyond"(2014). During the pandemic, Luna Paige launched two music digital music series (“Behold, my heart” & “Calm after the storm”). This series of singles were made available on her online music store at www.lunamusic.co.za. A wide variety of Luna Paige's songs have been playlisted on national, provincial and smaller community radio stations.
Paige also writes songs in Afrikaans. Her arrangement of the FAK song "Vaal ou Karooland" was recorded and filmed at the invitation of pianist Rocco de Villiers for KykNet's "Die Liedjies Wat Ons Ken II". The "Ou Karoo" music video circulated on television for years. Her first full-length Afrikaans album was launched in DVD format in 2012. "Storielied" was a collection of songs inspired by the literary works of award-winning South African writers. This unique collection of music opened doors to Dutch stages, as well as local Afrikaans arts festivals. Luna recently breathed new life into this project with the Storielied Reunion. This reunion concert attracted 170 excited fans who attended the concert at the Daisy Jones Bar in Stellenbosch in February 2024.
Luna was producer and director of the musical theatre production "Korreltjie Kantel". This project celebrated the works of Ingrid Jonker. Her works and the love story between her and André P Brink were intertwined in a unique production that toured for just over three years. The album was made possible by national radio station RSG and was nominated for a SAMA (South African Music Award) in 2018. Here, Luna Paige worked closely with fellow musicians Nick Turner and Jamie Jupiter. The musical theatre production toured in the Netherlands and Belgium after being presented at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival, Woordfees and Aardklop National Arts Festival. Actors Wessel Pretorius and Christine Truter took part in the exciting project.
