Cape Town International Jazz Festival returns with free community concert
The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) will host its Free Community Concert at Greenmarket Square on 25 March, offering the public a free open‑air showcase of live music from 4pm to 8pm.
The event will conclude with a performance by Sheila E. & The E‑Train.
The event provides a preview of Africa’s Grandest Gathering and forms part of the festival’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and community engagement.
Since its launch in 2000, the CTIJF has grown into the largest jazz festival on the continent, attracting thousands of attendees each year. The Free Community Concert remains a central feature, providing an inclusive, family‑friendly experience that blends established musicians with emerging talent.
The 2026 line‑up includes Heart FM DJ, Joneca, Zolani Mahola, Cameron Ward, Justin‑Lee and Zoë Modiga. The evening will conclude with a performance by Sheila E. & The E‑Train. The programme features a mix of South African artists and internationally acclaimed performers, spanning jazz, soul, fusion, and contemporary African music.
The concert is alcohol‑free, with standard safety and crowd‑management measures in place, including random security checks. Festival organisers emphasise that the event is intended to give the community access to world‑class music in one of Cape Town’s historic public spaces.
The main festival will follow at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on 27 and 28 March 2026, featuring both legacy jazz artists and emerging global talent across multiple stages.
