Da L.E.S (born Leslie Jonathan Mampe Jr. on 26 July 1985) is a South African-American hip hop recording artist, record producer, entrepreneur and cultural influencer. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in South African hip hop, known for shaping the genre’s crossover appeal and lifestyle culture.
Born in Washington, D.C., United States, to South African parents and raised in Johannesburg, Da L.E.S began his music career in the early 2000s as a member of the hip hop collective Jozi. The group played a pioneering role in introducing a sound that blended American crunk and hip hop with South African identity, helping to redefine local urban music.
As a solo artist, Da L.E.S achieved mainstream success with the hit single “Heaven” featuring AKA and Maggz. He has released several acclaimed albums, including Fresh 2 Def, Mandela Money, North God and Diamond in Africa. His music is characterised by high-energy delivery and a fusion of hip hop, rap, trap and crunk influences.
Beyond music, Da L.E.S has expanded his profile through television appearances, including The Real Jozi A-Listers, as well as various entrepreneurial ventures.
