Chimanimani Arts Festival

Bio

Established in 1998, the Chimanimani Arts Festival was an annual Zimbabwean music festival that took place every year in August. It was a free event that aimed to develop the careers of upcoming artists by engaging them in various forms of art, be it painting, acting, music or theatre.

Upcoming musicians were given the opportunity to perform alongside well-known artists. Some of the musicians who have graced this event include Sulumani Chimbetu, Ammara Brown, Alick Macheso, Sugar Sugar, Diana Samukange, Agatha Murudzwa, Blessing Shumba, superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and many others.

The event brought local artists and locals together in a fun, outdoor atmosphere. It provided a platform for the Chimanimani Arts Festival Trust to develop the skills of artists in the district, as well as the province of Manicaland. The festival was normally characterized by traditional ceremonies from Chief Ngorima and his entourage, who opened the performance segment of the festival.
