TSIE
Bio
TSIE is an Accra-based singer, songwriter and filmmaker who artfully weaves African folk storytelling traditions into contemporary sounds. His sound is heavily influenced by the Palm-wine, Reggae, highlife, blues, Afrobeat, and soul music he grew up listening to. TSIE's music can be described simply as "raw heartfelt music with a healthy dose of Ghanaian vim."
Formerly known as Daddo Gyan, TSIE changed his name in 2022 to reflect a deeper and more natural shift in his artistic purpose. TSIE, an Mfantse word meaning "Listen," symbolizes his belief that music should inspire connection, reflection, and emotional depth. The capitalized name is also an acronym for his mantra "Truth, Still Is, Everything".
TSIE's music is raw and simple in presentation, but deep and colourful in the ways that matter - it is sometimes a mirror, a love letter, or a newspaper, and other times, just the lullaby you need at the end of a tough day. Led by a dynamic, raspy voice, and often accompanied by guitar, piano, or minimal instrumentation, TSIE's music explores life, loss, identity and the many faces of love.
TSIE expresses his versatility through collaboration: from crafting "Afraw" with LAGOS IN PARIS, Indie-electro with Numa, Afro-Jazz Fusion with wordsofAzia, Coupé-décalé with Diane Dddd, Americana with CUTTS, Deep emotional ballads with Ko-jo Cue, and concept EPs with Adomaa, to soundscapes for several visual projects, including movies currently on Netflix, Showmax, and two short films for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
TSIE also created (with the help of the Terra Alta foundation) a monthly series of inclusive songwriting sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic, to explore new ways of making in a fast changing world. Many musicians, DJs, Poets, filmmakers and Photographers participated over the 3 years that it run.
TSIE's vision is to create bridges through music as a means of understanding the world, encouraging genuine connection between people, and building a better world.
