Agga Nyabinde
Bio
Born Aggabu Tafadzwa Nyabinde in the mining city of Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, Agga Nyabinde is a dynamic Afro-jazz artist, guitarist, and bandleader whose sound fuses rich African storytelling with contemporary global influences. A recognized force in Zimbabwe’s music scene, he earned multiple Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) nominations in 2020 and 2021, and was crowned Best Jazz Artist in 2022.
Agga’s musical journey began at a very tender age under the mentorship of legendary icons, including his father Bob Nyabinde, as well as Sam Mtukudzi and Oliver Mtukudzi. His early breakthrough came as a member of the Club Shanga ensemble, based in Marondera. After the group won the Music Crossroads Inter-Regional Festival in 2010, Agga toured Europe in 2011, performing in Spanish cities including Barcelona and took part in international workshops that broadened his artistic perspective.
He later joined his father’s band as lead guitarist, contributing to the album Anzwa Hama and producing standout tracks like “Mombe YeMavhu.” Under Bob Nyabinde’s guidance, Agga honed a distinctive musical identity—one that honours legacy while embracing innovation.
In 2017, Agga launched his own ensemble, 2nice Band, which rebranded as Kashe Groovers in 2026, marking a bold new chapter. Together, they have released four albums—KUSHANDA (2019), Basa Ibasa (2020), Kufara KweMumwe (2022), and Honai (2024), alongside several singles, including the widely celebrated anthem “Handikundike,” a powerful crowd favourite known for igniting live audiences.
Renowned for his captivating stage presence, Agga has performed at major festivals such as the Jacaranda Music Festival (2024 & 2025) and the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts (Tuku Music Festival, 2024 & 2025). He also appeared as a guest on The Osaka Live Events hosted by Patrick Newell for the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. His performances are celebrated for their energy, authenticity, and emotional resonance, bridging cultures while honouring African heritage.
With a sound that is deeply rooted in tradition yet boldly progressive, Agga Nyabinde continues to rise as one of Zimbabwe’s leading Afro-jazz voices, making him a standout act for festivals, cultural showcases, and international stages. The Kashe Groove is one to watch.
