Agga Nyabinde
Bio
Aggabu Tafadzwa Nyabinde, widely known as Agga Nyabinde, is a Zimbabwean Afro jazz artist, guitarist, and bandleader whose music blends deep African storytelling with contemporary global sounds. Born and raised in the small mining town of Kwekwe, Agga began playing guitar at the age of 12, inspired by late music icons Sam Mtukudzi, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Tongai Moyo.
Agga’s musical journey gained early momentum when he became part of the award-winning Zimbabwean group Club Shanga. The Marondera-based ensemble won the Music Crossroads Inter-Regional Festival in 2010, earning them a European tour in 2011. During this tour, Agga performed in Spain, including shows in Barcelona, while also participating in music workshops that expanded his artistic perspective.
He later joined the award winning band of his late father, Afro jazz legend Bob Nyabinde, as a lead guitarist. During this time, he contributed to the album Anzwa Hama and produced notable singles such as Mombe YeMavhu. Under his father’s mentorship, Agga developed a distinctive musical voice, carrying forward a rich legacy while shaping his own artistic identity.
In 2017, Agga formed his own ensemble, 2nice Band, marking a new chapter in his career. With the group, he has released four albums: KUSHANDA (2019), Basa Ibasa (2020), Kufara KweMumwe (2022), and Honai (2024). He has also released six singles to date, including the fan-favourite Handikundike, a powerful anthem that consistently energizes audiences during live performances.
Agga’s talent has earned him national recognition, with Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) nominations in 2020 and 2021, and a win for Best Jazz Artist in 2022.
A seasoned live performer, Agga has graced major stages, including the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival (2024), Jacaranda Music Festival (2024 & 2025) and the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts (Tuku Music Festival) (2024 & 2025). His performances are known for their energy, authenticity, and emotional depth—celebrating African heritage while connecting with diverse global audiences.
With a sound rooted in tradition yet forward-looking, Agga Nyabinde stands out as one of Zimbabwe’s leading Afro jazz voices, making him a compelling act for festivals, cultural events, and international stages.
