The Leading Vibe Initiative (LVI), founded by two-time Grammy Award-winning artist Tems, held its first in-person programme in Lagos, Nigeria, from 8 to 9 August.

Supported by Hennessy and Native Instruments, the two-day event brought together 20 emerging women in music from across Nigeria, including producers, artists, and songwriters. The programme focused on creative collaboration, mentorship, and professional development, and took place at Amah Studios and GAIA Lagos.
The event began with a welcome dinner hosted by Tems, who spoke about her experiences in the music industry and the motivation behind founding LVI.
“When I started out as an artist, I had to teach myself everything, from production to navigating the music industry,” she said. “There are many women with the same drive and potential, but without access to the right tools or network. That is why I started The Leading Vibe Initiative.”
The second day featured workshops, panels, and breakout sessions in artist performance, songwriting, and music production. The opening panel, The Power Behind the Vision, discussed long-term strategy, image, and team building. It was moderated by Lola Ige, head of marketing at Sony Music West Africa, with contributions from image architect Dunsin Wright and talent manager Muyiwa Awoniyi.
Masterclasses were led by industry professionals including Wale Davies (Sony Music Publishing), Sarah Lorentzen (RCA Records), Saszy Afroshii, Yimeeka, and Joyce Olong. Native Instruments presented a session on a custom demo software developed for the programme to help reduce technical barriers for women in music.
The final panel, If I Could Tell Her, featured Bloody Civilian, Sasha P, and Saszy, with moderator Chinasa Anukam. Topics included creative autonomy, authenticity, and visibility for women in music.
The programme closed with a discussion between Tems and LVI programme coordinator Tsehaitu Retta, followed by a reception hosted by Hennessy.
The next edition of LVI will take place in Kenya. Applications opened on 11 August here.
