The emotional track blends Njerae’s signature Afro-Indie stylings with Pablo’s North American pop-R&B flair, creating a genre-bending anthem that explores love, heartbreak, and the hope of reconciliation.
‘Gone’ marks Njerae’s first release since her critically acclaimed February EP Four Letter Word, which has amassed over 1.5 million streams across digital platforms. Riding high on the success of that project and standout collaborations with East African rap royalty, such as ‘Find Me’ with King Kaka and Scar (Wakadinali), and the sultry ‘Sema’ with Femi One and Brandy Maina, Njerae continues her upward trajectory with this international release.
“This is a huge moment for me,” Njerae said. “To collaborate with someone like Preston, whose music I’ve admired for years, is surreal. He already has a strong following in East Africa, and it’s been incredible to blend our worlds to tell one story of love and heartbreak.”
Now recognised as one of East Africa’s rising musical forces, Njerae was recently named part of Apple Music’s Africa Rising Class of 2025 and selected as Spotify Africa’s Global Ambassador for the EQUAL campaign. These accolades reflect her growing global presence and her ability to infuse emotional depth into her music.
On ‘Gone’, Njerae delivers rich, heartfelt vocals as she grapples with the pain of a lost relationship—one that once felt like a perfect harmony. Her lyrics express longing and confusion, asking what went wrong, while clinging to the hope that love might return. Preston Pablo, known for global hits like ‘Flowers Need Rain’ and ‘Dance Alone’, complements the track with a soulful performance that intensifies the emotional push and pull between acceptance and regret.
More than just a duet, ‘Gone’ bridges continents and cultures. It’s a crossover pop track that reflects the power of music to transcend geographical boundaries and unify audiences through shared human experience.
By joining forces, Njerae and Preston Pablo have crafted a unique and compelling soundscape, one that celebrates artistic diversity while highlighting the universal themes of love and loss.
‘Gone’ is now available on all major streaming platforms.
