Described as a love song rooted in shared human experience, ‘I Got A Song’ draws inspiration from the Aboriginal Australian concept of “songlines”, cultural pathways that connect people to their ancestral lands and traditions.
“Music is the heartbeat of global connection,” Dawuni said. “This song, and having the opportunity to collaborate with Cedella, honours that spirit while invoking a call for harmony, identity and purpose through its natural reverence to the joy of love.”
Marley added: “‘I Got a Song’ reminds us of the power we each carry within our voices and cultures. It’s a bridge between past and future, between continents and communities, and we are so excited for the world to hear it.”
Recorded at Hen House Studios in Venice, California, the track features Santa Davis (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh) on drums, John McKnight (Ben Harper, Fishbone) on bass and guitar, and Anthony Brewster (Chali2na, Citizen Cope) on keyboards. The song was engineered by Harlan Steinberger and mixed by Bob Riddim, while Marley’s vocals were recorded at Studio C in Miami by Fareed Salamah.
