Recognised as one of the founding voices of Ghana’s asakaa movement, a local interpretation of drill music, O’Kenneth has been instrumental in defining a gritty, uniquely Ghanaian sound that has captured the attention of global audiences. His breakout single ‘Sore’, along with its high-profile remix featuring UK rapper Stormzy, catapulted him onto the international stage and earned acclaim from platforms such as Rolling Stone, Teen Vogue, and The Native.
“South Africa has always been a creative leader on the continent, from hip hop to amapiano, the energy here is undeniable,” O’Kenneth said. “I want to connect with that energy and build bridges between our scenes. It’s time for African artists to collaborate more deeply across borders.”
The visit marks a strategic push to grow his audience in Southern Africa, with support from distribution platform United Masters. South Africa, known for its vibrant youth culture and influential music landscape, provides fertile ground for O’Kenneth’s evolving sound.
Throughout his stay, O’Kenneth will participate in a series of media engagements including podcast features, online interviews and appearances on major radio stations. He is also expected to meet with South African artists and producers for potential collaborations aimed at blending Ghanaian drill with local sounds such as amapiano and gqom.
