The artist says the reggae anthem is inspired by personal experiences, driven by the message of African unity and dedicated to young people globally.
Released on Foreign Exchange Records, ‘Long Way’ adds to Gibrilville’s growing catalogue, which already includes other offerings like ‘Dididaada’, ‘Can of Soda’ and ‘Angels’. He is also behind the 2015 album, The Foreigner JJC.
“I hope the song serves as an anthem and a reminder to the youth never to stop fighting for what they believe in and always believe in themselves,” Gibrilville told Music In Africa. “No matter where you live as an African, every voice matters in our struggle to unite Africa.
“I want to share this experience so young people are aware of the responsibility and difficulties in going against the norms of society, and that can be a hard reality. Having the conversation can raise awareness.”
Born Gibril Adedayo Hassan Mansaray, Gibrilville also dabbles in hip hop and Afrobeats. His musical journey was inspired by his father’s record collection as well as the music palette of his brother. Gibrilville has performed at festivals across the US, and is widely credited for his energetic and deeply personal sets.
On his overall vision for music, he said: “I wanna make music in different West African languages and make music with different people all over the globe. I get a lot of joy from seeing how music impacts children, it’s so fulfilling. So the vision is to make music everyone can enjoy, both adults and children.”
