Féz wins British Producer and Songwriter prize
British-Nigerian producer Féz has been named the winner of the inaugural Drake YolanDa British Producer and Songwriter Prize.
Féz, whose real name is Feranmi Oguns, is the recipient of £10 000 ($11 600) in prize money awarded by the Drake YolanDa Fund, for a track he created as part of an immersive live showcase where he and four producers were invited to compose and record a song in 45 minutes in London on 4 November.
The winning track was sung by Brighton-based singer-songwriter Megan Lara Mae and has been described a vibrant, feel-good record, filled with pop sensibilities.
Féz emerged as the winner after impressing a panel of judges comprising BBC 1 presenter Huw Stephens, Gal-Dem music editor Tara Joshi, Brit Award-nominated singer and actress Toyah Willcox and award-winning songwriter Michelle Escoffery.
With his band The Outlanders, Féz has also released two jazz albums including the group's debut Then.Now.Later featuring collaborations with Grammy award-winning bass player Michael League of Snarky Puppy and MOBO Award nominee Femi Temowo.
Féz also runs the OL Music production company and has collaborated with Lucy Grimble, Pete McAllen and Jake Isaac.
The British Producer and Songwriter Prize is a platform created by award-winning saxophonist and broadcaster YolanDa Brown with philanthropist and entrepreneur James JP Drake. It seeks to showcase emerging artists and provide a means to launch their careers.
