Call for submissions: Afrochella's Rising Star challenge 2022
Ghanaian cultural festival Afrochella is inviting submissions for this year’s edition of its Rising Star challenge.
The music programme seeks to reveal and support aspiring talent across the continent. It comprises a social media submission contest, educational programming, an exclusive playlist, and the opportunity to perform live at the festival.
Twenty-five of the best submissions will be included in a curated playlist for fans to vote on.
“Our goal is to increase the visibility of artists across Africa,” the organisers said.
How to apply:
Interested participants must:
- Upload an Original Song to Audiomack
- Create and upload a 60-second Instagram reel that should include:
- An introduction of the artist, including their approach to music, what genre of music they perform, music-making process as well as what they want their potential audience to know about their style of music.
- A snippet of the applicant’s music.
- Submit their official entry to the challenge here.
Submissions close on 12 August. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Note:
- The top 25 contestants will take part in artist workshops led by music professionals and executives to help boost their music creativity as well as teach them about the business side of music. These masterclasses will be hosted from August to November in partnership with Music Business Africa.
- The top five finalists will be chosen during the second week of September and will partake in precursor activities for the Africhella Festival, including Instagram Live virtual performances with a Q&A segment, and an interview with Guide Radio.
- Winners from the top five will be chosen on 29 December, during the festival.
